IMO 375 is baking temp and I wouldn't want to bake my seals & bearings.

 

I would just use paint and not risk baking it. If you want wrinkle red, try shooting VHT wrinkle (I did mine and looks great) then maybe a few light coats of red

 

So just use high temp engine paint? Also is there a primer that is best to use?

 

I used automotive grade primer, base, and clear and I spin my blower hard and generate a lot of heat with no problems.

 

Every time I see a pic of this engine bay it gives me a chubby...[smilie=bo

 

I just scuffed mine up a little and used Krylon for Plastics red paint. Never dulled, chipped, or had any problems with it in the 3 years it was painted.

i wouldn't bother. i did my plenum. just scuffed it then painted it. it never peeled

 

If you want to Powder Coat it then you will need to dissassemble it. Take all the bearings out and strip the paint off. I think the case would be easy to do just tape off the inlets and the bolt holes and go at it. The Snout needs to be completely dissassembled as well if you want it done. It would be a good idea to get another blower then have it coated and stripped then sent to Steig or Posi for a port.

 

I'm gonna send my KB 2.3 to JonBond for rebuild. And FORD blue gloss Powder coat.

I could Powder Coat it. You would just need to get it reassembled. Its 450 till the paint starts to flow out. Then we bump it down to 400.

 

15 minutes at 375 wont harm a bearing much if at all. as long as the grease is out and they are clean so nothing can bake in them. I heat bearings to 400 all the time for installation purposes on gear shafts. We also have to warranty everything for 5 years in our aftermarket side and our marine side (navy gearboxes) for far longer.

well I tested some VHT but I did not like how it looked. So I made my way down to the local napa and bought some high temp engine block red paint and clear coat. I shall commense sanding and painting tomorrow if I can get my pulley off.

 

what happened to the VHT? Stupid question but did you shake the hell out of the can or just not what you wanted after it dried?

 

Oh I shook it like I was at a dance club. Looking at the can I realize I did not buy the wrinkle. But I am thinking that glassy red would look really good since my truck is glossy red

Maybe I will grab another can and see how that turns out

 

I like fruhdaddy's idea to paint with VHT Crinkle paint and then tried to put a few light coats of red over it so the wrinkle finish still shows up.

 

here is a update for you guys, I spent the afternoon working on it after work. The plenum will be completed tomorrow. I will also be replacing the bolts to make it more aesthetically pleasing
