im sure there is info on here somewhere but i was just sitting here watching the Ohio State vs USC game and i was wondering to myself is there any difference between a ported stock plenum compared to the C&L?

im sure alot of it depends on how much boost/what SC your running
but i want to get some opinons/facts!

From what I have been told the polished out stock plenum I have on my truck is one of the smoothest some people have ever seen.

With that being said I will be getting tuned very soon, if somebody has a C&L they would like to send me for comparision let me know I'll be happy to compare.

You can look in my past posts to find pictures of it.

I ran an extrude honed stocker back in the day. Before the C+L was available. JDM tuned many trucks with each and told me upgrading to the C+L was not going to gain anything. I have since put on a JLP sheetmetal intake but have no real proof of gains. I like the design and wanted to reduce inlet restrictions as much as possible.

I would probably agree... a well done stocker is probably just as efficient as a well done C&L. The JLP unit definitely has a "coolness" factor and I thought that there were some reported gains with it.

Most reported gains with a JLP plenum were with the KB 2.3. The sheetmetal plenum allowed utilizing the entire blower inlet without the adapter plate for the stock plenum. I have never seen documented gains with the Eaton/MP version nut am a firm believer that it does help. Certainly has not hurt my performance. Jim at JDM reccomended against it(competitor's product?), but after a lot of tuning we left it in place.

Extrude honed and mildly hand massaged stock upper is all you need, anything else is just a waste of money. I was running mid 10's years ago with a KB 2.3 and extruded stock upper plenum :bigtu I also have some cool tbody tricks to share with you Hammer, give me a call and I'll tell you about them. :bigtu

What about the JLP KB plenum on the KB 2.3, you see gains with that?

thanks for the input guys..i wanted to see others opinons or what they have heard/were told
i always know Jim wil give me good answers and advice Thanks Bud
JJ i'll be giving you a call this week anyways..hoping to go to Atco on thursday, dieing to try out that new race tune
i know FF is still running an extrude honed stocker, i just didnt know others were still doing so

I was running a stock ported plenum but switched to a C&L and had it ported by stieg. I don't have any #'s to compare before and after but I think it made a big diffrence [smilie=3gand side by side comparision you can tell that the ported C&L moves way more air than the stock ported plenum! I'll see if I have any pics somewhere.

stock vs. out of box C&L I believe the C&L's internal volume is larger from jump.
I never did a side by side when I had the C&L and now got the APS I dont think Id use anything else for the time being...makes for awesome intake noise when driving and looks sexy.

thats f'n sweet dude!

The best part is...it makes a funny "turbo"ish sound at certain throttle positions....and you can now hear the truck whining slightly at idle :D

The Dude, If it is all about the volume of air you move I don't know how it would be possible not to gain from it. I talked to several people before I bought my JLP Sheetmetal Plenum that had a 2.3 Kenne Bell and they all had one thing in common, they all said the JLP Sheetmetal Plenum made that supercharger work the way it was designed to work. If you can run 10.50 with a restricter plate on it, just imagine if you would let that thing breathe, LOL.

For the restrictor plate/plenum to be a a bottle-neck, would it not have to have a smaller x-sectional area than the TB? To me it looks like a SBTB and a "honed" stock plenum/restrictor plate all have about the same x-sectional area. If that is the case, I just can not see how a larger ID plenum will help flow when the TB does not have the same ID.

Than I guess the 1 to 2 lbs of boost gained from switching from the C&L Plenum that JJ dynoed my Lightning with to the JLP Sheetmetal Plenum wouldn't add any HP/TRq:smt102.

Jose right?

thanks man it always feels good when someone compliments your truck

i wouldnt be running as good as i do if it wasnt for the JJ tune and the help of guys like Fast Freddy and Jim Inner (CT TopGun)

you gotta talk to JJ about giving you that Stock Pulley Tune ;)

hopefully the weather here in NJ holds out and i can put down some new, faster times on thursday

if you had the stocker gasket matched to the TB than i think you would notice a difference..but like JJ said the smallest restriction in the induction system is going to limit the amount of air you move
now if you have a mostly stock truck like mine..you dont need to move a ton of air, but you need to move it efficiently..make sense?

JJ, Since I have the AEM 98mm MAF/cold air intake, would you say if I was to go built and I could push the little 2.3 Kenne Bell to higher boost levels I would be better off than someone with a 90mm MAF. If so would I gain more from the use of the JLP Sheetmetal Plenum without the restricter plate than the C&L Plenum I had when you dynoed my Lightning.

Thanks. Bob

The larger the inlet the more airflow that you provide the supercharger.

Think about this, why does everyone replace the stock airbox with a larger air filter element? Its for more airflow, however that still has to go thru the stock meter so running a larger meter/tube will allow for more volume.

Thanks JJ, that is what I thought but I just wanted to be sure.

Clint, can you say Kenne Bell 2.3 1/2, LOL

what type of gains would you see with a ported stocker along side a accufab sbtb???

yeah man i gotcha, i plan on a pulley later, found a ported plenum locally so i may pick it up
