I've always been thinking about a different grill, and I have a question about billet grills that you guys have. Do me a favor and clue me in, and post a picture of your grill setup.

1. How many horizontal bars in your Upper Grill?
2. How many Horizontal bars in your Lower Grill?
3. What brand is your Grill?
4. How thick are your horizontal bars... 1/4" or 1/8"?
5. Is your Grill a full replacement (behind grill surround) or insert (bolts over existing grill)?
6. Any welds come loose?
7. Are horizontal bars solid or "C" channel?

I'm still thinking about all styles (billet, tubular, mesh, etc.) haven't decided, but had these questions about billet styles.

Mine are by T-REX. They replace factory grills and mount behind grill shell and bumper cover. They are solid billet bars about 1/8 thick by about 1/2 inch deep. I will have to check out the bar count when I get home.

YEA IVE BEEN WONDERING ON THE GRILLES BECAUSE I WANT 1 ALSO, I SAW SOME YOU GUYS HAVE THE 1 THAT HAS THE "sVT" LOGO ON THE DRIVER BOTTOM SIDE. I LIKE THAT 1 :bigtu:bigtu

THATS THE 1 I WANT, DAM THE TRUCK LOOKS SICK WITH THOSE GRILLES

Wow! You guys with red trucks love those billet grills huh? LOL! SO Loki actually tried to answer the questions, of course he has a black lightning! I'm just wondering with the bar count/size/solid/channel if one Chinese company is making all these grills and everybody brands them? That's not unheard of you know. T-REX is USA-Made BTW.

Well, keep the pix and info coming.

Actually, the eBay grills look pretty good too, and I think no matter who makes it, when you do the full replacement, you have to cobble up a few mounts anyway. Trying to make a decision. What to do.

mike, i just got the ebay grills i forget the brand name. they look alright.
i did the chrome grill mod to my HD and it looks really good in person. pictures don't do justice.
the bars are 1/8" think, and about 5/16" between them

Billy... That's the first time I've seen a picture of your Harley... nice looking ride! Is it NA or supercharged? Got a Lightning lower valance too huh? Those are full replacement uppers or inserts bolted to the old grill?

thanks man!
it's NA an the guy before me put the L valance on it. it's not quite the same as an L bumper. it looks the exact same, but theirs a difference between them. it was job in itself to get the lower grille to fit in it. i had to grind an 1 1/2" off of every bar to make it fit in their. it would have fit right into an OEM L bumper cover.
the top is a full replacement. it's very easy to install.
but the more i think about it, i think your grilles are awesome. i wouldn't change them. i don't think any other grille would look better.

Carriage works. Replacement on upper and lower powder coated black. Not sure of the count. Fitment was good. They are solid 1/8 bars I think. The bars don't appear to be welded. They appear to be bonded with some kind of high temp epoxy. I cut a set up once to make a custom piece and they are still very strong. I think the carriage works have a little more spacing between their bars.

I have a set of grilles at the powder coaters that I am supposed to pick up tomorrow. I could take a pic of them out of the truck.

I'm not a fan of mesh, but I was kicking around an idea in my head. I was thinking how a shiny upper replacement billet grill would look over some sort of diamond mesh in the bumper insert but the bumper insert would be semi-gloss black. Kinda'like a Mercedes. I may photoshop it to see what it looks like. Thinking it might put the focus on the grill.

Waking up a dead thread, but I have a question. I'm looking at getting a black upper and lower for my truck and was looking at the Carriage Works unit b/c I've had them in the past and have been very pleased, but on their website, they say that there is cutting required to install in the upper, and I'm wondering what needs to be cut? I would like to find one that replaces the stock grille so I can take the truck back to stock if I would like to. Is there another brand that offers the replacement? Any help on this would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Cutting likely refers to the tabs on the inner portion of the grille surround, which holds the stocker in place. If you cut these of you will not be able to put the stocker back on.
My stainless steel billet grilles are this way and now that I am going back to stock, I had to find another grille surrond, which I was lucky to find a local L in a wreck on the passenger side and pick it up on the cheap.

Thanks for the info. I got "un-lazy" and checked out the install instructions on their site and it says you just have to drill eight holes to rivet the upper in place.... so that's not a big deal since they wouldn't be seen with the factory grille back in place.

LIke MJG has said I had Billet grills and if i could do it over i wouldnt have done it. You have to cut some the tabs and drill 8 holes for the rivets ( 4 top 4 bottom).

I also had to buy a grill shell to use my stock grills. and now i have this useless grill shell from my billet grills laying around

well, that kinda sucks.... I was lookin at goin with billet b/c my factory lower grille was cracked my the previous owner and didn't wanna pay the millions of dollars for a new one from Ford.... Guess I'm gonna look for replacement lower and paint the factory grilles black. Dang.

I'll be throwing up my billet grille combo in the classifieds in a couple months, I'm thinking of selling the grille surround with it to save someone the hassle of destroying their own, just pop it off with the stocker and save it.

Won't be for months so don't everyone PM me!
