Got my powermaster alternator looked at today. Tested just fine!
The guy thinks that the powder coating is the issue. Not allowing the alternator case to ground to the block. Which makes sense. They tested it at first and it was not giving any output and then they grounded it some where else on the case and it works just fine! Go figure.
That's not an "airbox", it's simply a heat shield. And Dusten is correct, looks much better without it. I don't know about anyone else's, but my filter has never gotten that hot to begin with. So why keep ugly?
