Bassani catback, high flow cat mids. offroad pipes were just loud for the sake of loud imo. I had them one week and couldnt stand it. Just didnt sound good, at all.

Went high flow mids, never looked back. JDM Silver bullet always sounded good too.

I thought this was a zombie thread from 2004 though when i first saw it lol.

its funny you say that. I wonder what it would sound like with the high flow bassani cats and stock cat back? The mid pipe with cats is actually cheaper than the cat back, doesn't make much sense IMO

Back when there were many Lightnings at the national race events it was easy to tell the difference between the JDM Silver Bullet/Magnaflow equipped trucks and the JLP Bassani trucks. Of course desirable sounds is certainly a personal preference. I always liked the Magnaflow setup better.

well i think to keep it easy I'm going with the bassani or the magnaflow. I can get them each for about the same price after a ton of looking. I have read alot of good things about going with a high flow mid pipe as well (keeping the factory exhaust manifolds), magnaflow is double the cost of a bassani. Wonder what would sound better, the bassani high flow mid with the bassani or magnaflow!

Am I the only one who thinks bassani sounds like trash? My truck came with a bassani cat back and I hated it. Sounded bad IMO. Magnaflow all the way. If you put headers on that will really make the cat meow. But I digress.

the bassani mufflers do, they sound worse than the magnafkows and flowmaster 40’s

For what it's worth, describing what various exhaust combinations sound like (and even listening to them on YouTube) is like trying to describe what a banana tastes like. Your best bet (though difficult to do) is to go find Lightnings in your area with the exhaust you're considering and ask to take a ride in it. Be sure to include highway cruising, where drone or excessive decibel levels become an issue. I know, good luck, right? But otherwise your only route is read what you can, then try and fail, and try again. You may get lucky the first time, or you may end up trying 3-4 exhaust set-ups before you hit on the one you like. DAMHIK

Yep I’m afraid you are right, I live in northern Wisconsin so even seeing another lightning around here is pretty rare. From what I read the bassani is a little louder than the Magnaflow. I had the Magnaflow on my last one, was very mellow and nice but expected a little more for the money. Wonder if a high flow bassani catted mid pipe would complement it and give me the sound I want or just go with a bassani this time and maybe it is a little louder and that will be enough.

Since you’re curious anyway and it doesn’t cost much, how about try the stock muffler and high flow or no cats? I’m running this setup currently until I make time to weld my spintech 9000’s on. I actually got two compliments yesterday both from this married couple about how good my exhaust sounds. And I’m only running stock catback and custom 304 SS midpipes I welded on.
