As far as I'm concerned, the risk of broken studs trying to do headers rules them out for me. And you will break studs. Wait for it!

My 04 L had shorty headers on it when I bought it in 2017. Among the 7-8 L's that I drove while I was shopping for one, it had the best throttle response of all of them. I can't say that the headers add any power, but I suspect that they contribute to the very responsive feel that I get from the throttle.

Changing from the stock throttle body to an Accufab did the same to mine without shorty headers.

That can be simply a placebo effect of the noise.

And try installing a set. Definitely not worth the returns.

My truck came with equal length shorties. Other then having to buy the right socket get to remove them I like them. My builder/tuner said they are fine to put back on if I wanted to on my build.

If you already have them there is no reason to put manifolds on. But I'd definitely look for good long tubes.

But I would never install them in place of manifolds

I've added the Accufab TB as well, along with other 4# components - I'm pretty pleased with how the truck responds. And I still maintain that the shorties have played a role in that, all along.

To the OP, I'm not saying that I'd do the shorty route myself, if it weren't already done, because I recognize how much trouble it could be. But I'm super pleased with the combo that I've got.

Are shorty headers worth it? I want to dump my manifolds for shorty headers. I have catless mids I don’t want to change my mid pipe.
why waste the money? and effort? for zero benefit, other than impressing the ricers?
