My lightning almost got stolen yesterday while i was at work.
They went through the slider window and they also got about $2000 worth of tools from the bed underneath the tonneau cover.

worst of all, the truck was underneath a light and camera but they refuse to give me the footage.

now, lets get to the point of this topic.

A) the truck is getting a solid rear glass today.
B) what do you guys do about kill switches?
C) when i go to replace the ignition barrel/tumbler, how can i do this while retaining my same key?
D) I encourage EVERYONE to take precautions on making sure your truck is safe…. Wheel locks, kill switch, steering lock, brake pedal lock, everything

it’s pretty sad that I cannot even enjoy the vehicle that I bought and built with my hard earned money because someone else is going to f it up or steal it from me

The truck has a factory kill switch. It won't run without the key that has the correct transponder. The pats system won't allow it to start.

The stock slider takes about 12 seconds to open with a coat hanger. They suck.

love the key pad on the door for that reason ^
I CAN lock the keys in the truck

works running or not..great for a supercab with a dog in the back
and cold mornings
like the patio door with a piece of wood fitted in the track to block the door ..you can make something simular with a length of fuel line and a tube bender
make a stick you can fit in the track with something of a bent up end or a bump up so you can grab it

Here's the issue with that. Insurance can deny coverage for a vehicle left running. Smash the window and they have your truck.

I was standing next to my truck with it running to provide heat for my daughter at a meet and she bumped the lock getting out. I never leave a rig running.

Well; update.

Ive aquired a window from a single cab and fiberglass surround from an extended cab….. i have something up my sleeve for us lightning owners.

i spent a couple hours at the junkyard on a rainy day pulling some back windows and surrounds to play with.

I understand the extended cab surrounds do not fit our truck, but I put two fiberglass ones up together, one for the extended cab, and one for the single cab flare side….. with slight modification of the fiberglass piece (because I do not want to ruin my truck by drilling holes) I think I can make it work.

they are the same dimensionally, SOME of the mounting points are correct.
So, we’ll see how solid it is after aome of the studs get the chop a roo.
Is it “correct”? No. Could it work? Possibly.

i spent a whopping $50 for the glass AND surround at my junkyard and we have loads of these.

extended cab top; single cab bottom

Extended cab unbroken; single cab broken
Here are the mounting points lined up with each other

so, im going to play around with the surround to see how stiff it is just by cutting some of the studs…. If its not strong enough, ill epoxy in some base/panel studs and check then. Maybe we might have a cheap solution rather than $500 on ebay LOL!

I locked myself out one day when keys fell out of my pocket. I put the keyless door handle in the next day for a huge 5 dollars lol

or you could just use a regular cab surround and it’ll be a direct fit

Where did you guys get the keypad setup?
Every Lightning has the wires for it. You just need the handle/pad from a 99-04 f150, expedition or navigator from the junk yard. You may need to extend the wires depending on the handle you get. The plug for the trucks wire harness is right next to(2 o’clock poss) of the door speaker

Dang that sucks, thieves suck even more! Glad they didn't take the truck. Getting rid of the rear sliding window has been on my to do list forever now, it may be time to swing by the junkyard and pick up a solid surround. As far as keeping the same key when replacing the ignition cylinder, when you go to build the new ignition cylinder you will use your key as reference to match the tumblers to it.

You don't need to change the surround. People get the earlier fiberglass one because it's easier to smooth and paint. You can just swap the glass.

Sorry I haven't been active in the Forum lately. But my God I am so sorry to hear that happened. Probably all my sound gear in my truck is around 3k. It has gotten broken into at least 10 times if not more. The sliding glass window, some crackhead was able to slide through mine and 2005. Too bad for that asshole, with each additional break in I made it sadistically difficult to steal my equipment.
You don't have to get rid of the back sliding window. You can get wooden dowels and fit them into Jam perfectly both sides where the window cannot be slid off so easily.
I used to love driving my lightning into Chicago and valet parking at thinking it would be safe. But my gosh many times still not safe like that. It would probably be snatched up by gang people and on a trailer going to God knows where.
If you're going to do any kind of anti-theft Electronics let me warn you very much. I am having electrical issues that are all due to my old alarm system. The alarm Place saw all my equipment and repeatedly robbed me. I cannot get another key cut for the pickup unless I can find a professional to uninstall it. Otherwise I have the alarm system disabled. There is only one clicker left in existence that can make it stop. And it's from 2003, got dropped in the snow overnight. On its last leg. Be very careful with aftermarket alarms. Personally I would not recommend getting one.
I like doing physical security stuff much better. Someone in my fancy apartment complex with a big new Denali had it stolen the one night the gate in was stuck open. (Need a 2 car garage here for it to fit).
There are many Tesla's here. It would have made my heart smile had they chose to steal one.
I can't get anyone who can reprogram 1 more key. Until aftermarket security crap removed. It would pose a risk of making the truck not start.
I hate thieves. And I hate that pos mechanic that dropped my boost from 12 psi to 8psi. I just paid him to do maintenance. It worked great before.
Plus he gave me more electric gremlins! Aftermarket security just say no!
So glad they didn't get your whole baby.
