Pretty confident the chains suck. I’m borrowing a pair of Morse chains and OE tentioners that will basically eliminate all movable parts as a suspect.
But then if it were a deck height issue the chain guides wouldn’t bolt up...

I thinks it's a combo of problems...
First is the chains, they are riding too high on the gears.
Second is and I just noticed this..., why do you have mis-matched gears?

Lol. I don’t have mismatch gears. I used that pic to sho I ruled out plastic guides and known to work cam gears VS my new parts that are on the right side(passenger) I didn’t have stock gears laying around but had the old slippy comp gears from build#1 that worked before

Kenny, any luck with the timing chains?
I will have a pair of OE chains and Tensioners to try out today or tomorrow.
Maaaan I hope it’s simply the chains causing it.

To give y’all an idea of how tight these chains are I removed the piston from the tentioner housing completely and this is how much I can move it while hitting it with my purse.

Ok now I’m getting somewhere. With the OE pre stretched chains and the modified tentioner piston I’m getting .056 with a wedge to simulate oil pressure and .045 without wedge. I will get new OE chains and check again and have the left piston turned down a hair more to get .050 minimum travel. And the Right side is now good to go but I had to use the modified tentioner. It’s travel is .156 ??

They fit on the gears better and ride lower than the Cloyes but are still too tight. I sent the tentioner pistons to get machine down another .125”
Should be good to go after this 😬

Hells yea. The RS tentioner piston travels.069 without wedge to simulate oil pressure with new ford chains and a total of .255 slightly more than 1/4” off the tentioner pistons. And .052 on the left side. And the chain will stretch to I’m good to go. ⚡⚡👍🏻

The tentioner plunger needs to travel .050 minimum without putting a wedge (socket) (pry tool) to simulate oil pressure.
You can also put a wedge ect between the tentioner body and the pivot guide and measure travel with simulated oil pressure. If you have the ratchets in the tentioners they will prevent the plunger from relaxing after the engine is off.
You can file a couple teeth off the ratchet to allow the chain to relax a little or in my case completely delete those ratchet pins because the plunger doesn’t travel enough to lock anyhow.

Ordered a new starter, crank tool for rotating the crank and a GT500 oil pan gasket/windage tray.
