For those that don't know SVT_KY passed away from cancer. I'm working on a new how-to thread putting my twist on the one he did for us while he was here. RIP Cliff. Please be patient....

headlight knob

MPORTETR,

Your how to manuals are excellent, I am however having trouble getting the headlight knob off, I've tried the toothpick as recommended, as well as a host of other items, but to no avail, are you aware of any tool that is idiot proof that I could use,

Thanks in advance. .

Thanks Bro! Here's a subscribed link I had that shows a few more pix of the unit but It's been so long since I messed with mine that I've forgotten what I used...seems like it was 10g solid copper wire...

Add this to the brake/wheel bearing section!!

Here is the proper way to set the wheel bearing torque on your 4x2. When I replaced the wheel bearings on my 1999 L I used these steps:

With the brake disc and hub on the spindle, and the wheel bearing installed and the spindle nut on just hand tight,

1) While rotating the disc, tighten the spindle nut to 30 lb/ft (40 Nm)

2) Loosen the spindle nut two turns, making sure you do not let the disc come off the spindle

3) Rotate the disc and tighten the spindle nut to 17-24 lb/ft (23-34 Nm)

4) Loosen the spindle nut, again making sure not to allow the disc to start coming off the spindle

5) Tighten the spindle nut while rotating the disc to 17 lb/in (2 Nm)

6) Install the nut retainer, making sure you align the holes with the holes in the spindle nut, and install the cotter pin. The nut retainer has various hole alignments, allowing you to line them up without having to loosen or tighten the spindle nut.

By using this procedure, you are pre-loading the wheel bearing to its proper specs with the two steps of torquing, and then getting the final torque of 17-24 lb/in (2 Nm). Note that the last torque is INCH POUNDS, not FOOT POUNDS. You might have to borrow the torque wrench from Auto Zone or elsewhere that loans tools. Not too many "home" mechanics have torque wrenches other than Ft lbs.

I repacked my bearings after 20,000 miles and before removal I checked how tight the nut was, it was loose, I repeated these steps after repacking the used bearings and all is good!!

Replacing Lightning pedal covers with HD covers.

I have heard that early on some guys were replacing there Lightning pedal
covers with the HD Covers. So far I have replaced the E-brake and the Brake
pedal cover, now I am faced with trying to replace the accelerator pedal with
the HD cover. Not as straight forward as the first two.

This is a totally different set up. I am really stuck between doing or not doing
this part of the mod.

Anyone have any ideas how to go about this with out changing all of the
remaining accelerator mounting bracket.

HELP
Thanks :smt021
