Can anyone confirm what the factory used to coat the frames with exactly? It’s not paint but rather some sort of coating perhaps rubberized ?

It's some kind of Asphalt-based material.

Daubert Nox Rust X121B. I bought a couple of cans to touch up the areas where it has rubbed off.

So basically just a generic rubberized undercoating of any kind you can get anywhere.
