So apparently the Amazon tune the truck has had in it since I bought it may be a ticking timebomb. I'm overseas, so luckily it hasn't really been driven for the past 2 years and I didn't beat on it too much before that.

I'll be back stateside soon for a few weeks and I want to get a new tune in there so I know it's a little safer.

Anyone have a tuner local to the DFW area or at least within a reasonable driving distance?

Not many options I could recommend in the dfw area. I would stay away from gearheads and away from hps, ive heard bad things about both. Gearheads is who I took my truck to for a tune when it had clogged cats it made 330hp. A friend of mine had his L tuned at JKS in Mansfield, solid safe tune, pulled nicely. I later took mine to Houston to let Jim from jdm do the tuning. He was telling me about this time last year when I got the tune that they were opening a shop down there.

Definitely stay away from Gearheads! been there done that, Travis is a douche.. heard some good things about JKS in Mansfield, few local guys have had their trucks tuned there with good results..

Also haven't heard any good feedback on HHP either..

I appreciate the feedback. I might try to go by JKS in Mansfield since they are right down the street and have some good reviews. If my girlfriend wasn't flying out then I would be down to make the trip to Houston, but it looks like that will have to wait until I'm back in the states for good.

I wouldn't mind doing an email tune, but I'm only in town a few weeks and not set up to datalog.

If JKS is down the street from you, then your pretty close to me so if you ever wanna know how to datalog hit me up.. it's a great tool to have even if your not email tuning..

TUNE

HPP Racing is very good. Guy at the desk will kiss your butt too much and the tuner is snooty and will make you wait, but the tune is spot on. I Datalogged email tunes for months, never worked. Dyno is the way to go.

I had my L tuned at JKS. Josh is a good friend of mine. He closed the shop down to take a better job but is still there on the weekends mostly building engines. Great tuner and great engine building. I also know Manny at Hpp is a great guy to. Knows his shit but the only prob is i think they are booked up for like 2 months for dyno time. at least thats what he said the last time i talked to him. STAY AWAY FROM GEARHEADS AND DALLAS MUSTANG!!!!! wouldnt take a pile of dog shit to travis or archie.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try to get in contact with Josh from JKS and see if he is still doing tuning out of there or not. I'm only on leave for a couple of weeks and one of them I might be travelling to the east coast, so HPP is out until next year at least.

Do you happen to have his contact info or is the info on his site the best way to try to reach him?

Yeah ive attempted to datalog but can never get my programmer to register with my laptop.
JKS sounds like your best bet, good guy cant remember his name. Full tune was around 400 ish I think
If you're using SCT, call SCT and have them remote into your laptop and set everything up for you.. takes about 30 minutes on the phone with them..
