What gear ratio do some of you deep 9 second guys run? We basically only race 1/8 mile and currently have the stock 3.73 gears. Just ran a 6.07 in the 1/8th but wondering if swapping to 3.55's would be beneficial in the 1/8 mile. Possibly only one gear change on motor and less time in 3rd when we spray it. I imagine we could leave on a bit more nitrous with less gear to make up for any loss in 60'.

Stick with the 3.73 for the 1/8 mile...
Some people don't like to spin the engine very high and will put some 3.55 gears in for the 1/4 mile.
My truck has 3.70 gears in it...

Fair enough..we know you fast lol. Truck is heavy too so maybe the gearing helps some.

3.55s with a 30" tire need 6500 to see 108mph
So you'd be shifting right before the stripe

+1 for sticking on 3.73s for 1/8th.

Most make the jump back down to 3.55's around that 9 second mark, depending how far they want to spin it. Some guys are still 3.73's down to mid 9's, others jump to 3.55's. My first season in the 9's was on 3.73s, and 60' was always a challenge. Swapped to 3.55's again for the next season and it did help the 60 consistency a bit for me. Driving around though, I did miss the 3.73s. Even with gobs of power and plenty to roast the tires, the 3.73's just felt better cruising around without having to lay into it as much.

3.73's here. I think anything over 144-145 mph I am going to be pushing the Revs a bit high. I cross the stripe now at 6,200. My plans are beat the 3.2 record next year with a 11 year old 2.6. I believe that will be in the 9.3's at abut 145 mph. I will probably switch to 3.55's at that point! Not sure if it will hurt my 60 ft though?

Good deal. 3.73's it is. May just need to stage our nitrous or put back on controller. May try and run a 5.9x and be done with it. Too heavy otherwise and it's a full street truck.

3:55's for 9's

You will back half better with them.

If your setup correctly you just run a higher shift rpm.

Look at all the time slips and you can pretty much figure out who is running what gear.

Yeah. We will probably never go to the 1/4 mile again. It's a 1/8 mile only truck really. 3.73 is probably fine. Now on my turbo gen 1 I may drop my stock 4.10's for 3.55's. I hear the taller gear loads the turbo better.

I was concerned on the same thing, it was difficult to be consistent on my 3.73s, and I figured 3.55s may help but I was worried about the 60. Best move I made because not only did it get more consistent (at the time, not right now re-learning this thing lol), but the 60 improved a tad as well. IIRC my best 60 on 3.73's was a 1.36 and on 3.55's a 1.34 right off the bat.
