Default Is a loose spark plug sound easy to hear?

I have this mild clicking sound that I hear when I gas it next to a highway median, next to a wall, etc...Like a playing card in bicycle spokes.

It does not make the sound at idle or when I rev it up in park. Nor can I hear it at WOT since the blower and exhaust drown everything out. I can't hear it a mild throttle without a wall next to me either. I can only hear it when the sound bounces off a wall/median at mild throttle.

I know this could be a number of things, but I have no idea how loud an exhaust leak, slipping plug, detonation, etc.... should be. The truck has a good safe tune on it, so I wouldn't think detonation unless someone says differently.

Ideas?

Sounds like a loose plug, better give it a check.

i am always paranoid that im gonna shoot a plug, especially after doing so once. mine blew out awhile back when i first bought the truck... before it blew, i remember the noise, and at first i thought it was an exhaust leak, nope, boom..

but sometimes when your on the highway next to the rail, there's a lot that can be making that noise that will creap you out, especially when plugs are already on your mind.

Any tips on actually getting a proper torque reading on half of those plugs? My torque wrench is ten yards long and bumps into just about everything. Will arm tightening with a fair amount of strength (more than spec) do harm?

Also, I know there is a bunch of sand and dirt gunked around and under the plugs. Any tips on getting that crap out of there? I would just used compressed air, but I really need to all of that stuff out of there and I don't want any to get into the compression chamber. It would be great it there was a really tiny flexible vacuum attachment out there somewhere

Yeah, that's the reason I am confused here. I really put some tightening love on the ones I couldn't properly torque down...but who knows and it's always on my mind because of the mystery involved.

But hey...without these fun problems we wouldn't have this awesome forum

I heard that same noise once.....

X-mas eve......kids in truck, presents in bed. Went through a red light....

goosed it a hair....POP!!! It was a COP. Seemed the COP broke off the bolt and was rattling.

Make sure you check your cops as well.

a loose plug kinda sounds like a fluttering noise. at least mine did when I first got the L. I usually arm tighten my plugs & actually found out it's a little more than the proper tq spec.

Ditto... I also change my plugs at least once a year to ensure good burn. Overkill I know, but I do not have to worry about a loose plug.

Fluttering eh? Yeah, it's not that noise. Faint clicking for sure. Ugh...I will just check my plugs and COPS just in case. A couple hours won't kill me.

Soooo...I checked my COPS and two of them swiveled side-to-side (no up and down movement). But the COP bolts were as tight as they will get and they still swivel. I guess I shouldn't be worried since there is no vertical movement, correct?
