Mine's not a DD, but it is DD-able. I usually rotate which vehicles I drive since I've got 4. Every few months I'll decide to take the fast HD into work and drive it for the week. Drives fine, gets 15 mpg, and gets a lot of looks! lol

Just don't drive it very often since I dont like racking up the miles on it or getting it dirty. Drive my second 00 HD, which also gets 15 mpg, but its 200 hp and N/A. I need to fix that! LoL! But it is nice driving that truck being bone stock, quiet, and comfortable. Just less worries of hitting rain, having to haul stuff in the bed, etc. My primary DD is my 94 stealth, which is a blast in the twisties and a nice changup getting to shift for myself in that car.

Built trucks are very DD-able though with the right tune, its no issue at all! Heck my current engine in my fast HD was in another HD before I bought it, and that guy drove his truck every day, and put like 30k miles on it in like 2 years.

The only con I think is the loud exhaust when you just wanna chill on a long drive home but if you can get past that you should be fine!

It doesn't bother me a whole lot but sometimes when your coming home from a animal whore house with stickbo next to you all you really want is some peace n quiet!
thats why i went with 2 1/2" exhaust with 3" midpipe and "Y" cutouts. If I want it loud, its only a push of a button away.

i dd mine. it has been tuned by 4 people and gas mileage has always been about 10mpg.

i don't know what you are saying about loud exhaust and lopy cams. i think its sick and i've had mine for almost 3 years. the only time i wish the exhaust was quieter is when i'm trying to listen for something or when someone else is with me and i'm trying to have a conversation. actually now that i think about it, i have to have my music up pretty loud too and it's starting to hurt my ears

Mine is a true daily driver everyday to work. It has a JDM built longblock and a JDM tune that I have been running for 3 years (28,000 miles so far). It is not caged and I have never turned the wick up at the track. I run 14-15 lbs of boost and did not change it for the track. I just put the QTP's on the back and go to the track if I want. I am running a safe 12 degree WOT timing street tune that gets me to mid 11's at the track on 93 octane.

It has run flawlessly for 3 years and gas mileage did not suffer. It actually gets better mileage on the highway than the stock engine. I don't have a long drive to work (16 miles) so MPG is not that big of a problem.

The only mechanical problem I have had was my KB 2.3 ate the coupler and gears a few months ago because I let the oil level get too low. It had 45,000 miles on it. I will evenually get it rebuilt but in the meantime I am running a Magnum Powers blower at 16-17 lbs of boost.

Boy that was one hell of a night.

Glad to see I am not forgotten around here.

I see no drawbacks to a built motor for a daily driver. When you say built motor I think of a forged shortblock. If you put a forged shortblock with the rest of your stock shit you wont notice one bit of difference. Might be a bit more effiecent depending and actually could be smoother. Now if you have a truck setup for all out hell, thats a different story. But tuners can perform magic with the tune. Not like the old days of jetting carbs and huge cams. You had to live with hunting idles and lopey as hell cams. I personally like a nice huge cam with solid motor mounts and a blower whistling at saying"come on you animal fuker, open her up one time"

Any of you built ever throw in the dynamat? How much does that help with engine noise suppression in the cab?
