Default I really need help!

Ok, well when it comes to detail stuff, I don't know chit!

So I have a red gen one the one on my sig.. It was painted one year and a half ago.. Really nice shiny looks perfect.. Looks like a mirror, has a 3 stage clear coat IIRC..

But everyone tells me to keep it looking good I should wax her at least one's a year.. Is this true? She has never seen rain since.. All ways in the garage.

How do you wax? Do you use a machine? I'm lost lol...

Help!!

You can use a machine or do it by hand. It would not hurt to clay bar, polish, and wax it once a year.

Yeah I would invest in some Poorboys SSR1, I really like how it finishes out by hand, and follow that up with some Poorboys Natty Blue. In regards to clay bar, I don't think you need it just yet, next time you wash you truck, after your done cleaning and rinsing it, before you dry put a little soap on a 2x2 panel, and feel the paint. If it feels smooth as a baby's bottom, you're good, if it's course, gritty feeling, you'll need to clay bar it. If you have any other questions feel free to PM and I'll answer any questions you have.

You'll find some good info about the products I mentioned here.

You should watch the Karate Kid....."wax on, wax off"

I try to wax my truck about 2-3 times a season (normally its about once though). I just use Meguiars Gold, or NXT wax. I have used a Porter Cable before, and since yours sits in the Garage it would be a good place for you to use it.

until you've done it a few times Id steer clear of a buffer, you could easily burn through the paint and ruin a good paint job. I recommend a good paste wax once a year and a liquid wax once a month. Wash the truck 2-4 times a month. No armor all, and make sure the wax you use doesn't have silicone in it. The silicone seals the pores in the paint and doesn't allow it to breathe cutting the life from 10-15 years to 5-8 years. And use a high quality brand. I use Griots Garage or Adams on my vehicles. Try to stick to a certain brand, most companies make their products to work together. When you wash make sure you do it with care, a 2 bucket system works well. Check www.griotsgarage.com for alot of good products. As for armor all and like products, dont use them, even on your dash.

Ummm, you're going to burn through a clear coat with wax and a finishing pad how on a DA how? I'd personally be impressed if you could do it. Secondly, Idk where you heard that silicone is going to make your paint fall off, but that's not true. Silicone is bad for body shops as it will screw with the adhesion on new paint being applied to a panel, not make fully cured clear coat fall off. And the whole brand loyalty is nonsense as well, I use about 8 different brands per car and they all work with each other.

I was a body guy before I joined and every painter i worked with told me that the silicone shortens the life of paint. It doesn't make the paint "fall off" it kills the shine and causes premature cracking and dulling. As for useing a DA on paint you must be crazy or just really love that swirl mark look. If you use any buffer it should be a variable speed buffer with a wool or foam pad, NOT a DA sander. And you will easily burn through paint, especially on body lines where it's the thinnest. If you want to mix and match brands you can do what you want, Im just telling him what I've had the best results with.

DA, as in Dual Action, as in PC4737. I can sit on a spot for 5 minutes strait using my PC and it won't burn a thing. I'm not talking about an air sander for sanding down primer.

And as to silicone, believe what you want. I worked for plenty of body shops, and currently own a detailing business.
