Hola -
Well, my truck is back on the road with a 2.3 KB and a newly built Dante Modular Perf. motor.
Can I say I miss the turbo? Oh yeah, if you haven't followed my saga for the past year, I had swapped from a 2.3 KB to a PTS kit and got all the way up to 828 rwhp boost-only until I burned up a valve on my JLP motor. Well, not knowing I did damage, I leaned the motor out when it was reading rich. That took out the rest of the motor. It was a fun ride while it lasted. Truth be told, my work schedule and my pocketbook were at odds. With that amount of power, the more I stepped into the throttle, the more I just kept breaking crap. But, like a fly drawn to a bug zapper, I could not stop hitting it and I would not back the power off until I satisfied that need for speed. You know you're in a different league when you mess around with a yellow Lambo Murciliago in its power zone (80mph - 160 mph) and not only hang with it, but pull ahead of it!
With that said, this new motor really rocks!
I haven't even gone 100% throttle because I don't have a dialed in tune and the motor only has 800 miles on it now. At 50% throttle it will rip the tires off and leave the Hancooks screaming for mercy. Thanks to JJ on that and giving me a tune that I could get home on. JJ has been helping me out and is really a great guy and vendor to deal with. I can't wait to get this thing all dialed in and really put the pedal down!
That's not to say I don't have issues right now.
I'm just wanting to cruise and enjoy going to Hooters with friends.
I'm tired of being pit bitch to my truck.
But, I've gotta swap some parts out.
I've put in new O2 sensors. No change.
New COPs to replace the GMS coils, new 60# injectors so I don't have to incur the downtime to get my current ones cleaned and flowed, new EGR setup to keep the truck from bucking...
But you know what? I'm just jazzed to hear that KB whine under my hood and the dynatech LT's letting the motor growl like its pissed off... and that's what keeps me wrenching. That and engaging in good technical discussions with you guys :smt008 , sharing a brew while talking about the latest ricer POS we roasted, or the latest mod that we're going to get.
I lost 200 hp... but I'm back and better for it.

I think yoiu will be happier now...get it dialed in and smiling from ear to ear again...
Its a long hard road chasing that speed demon as your trials and triublations have clearly shown...Play=Pay...
let me know if you need anything.
Oh and welcome back to Lrodder!!!

I had wondered how long you were going to keep messing with that set-up.....

welcome back..sorry to hear about all the trouble your truck (and pocketbook) have gone through, but it sounds like she is running like a champ!

Now if I can just figure out how many parts it takes to swap out in order to fix its desire to ping in O/D when under 2000 rpm?!

dont make me reiterate it agian.....LOL.....or have to drive up there and fix it for you!! :smt118
Did you at least try what I suggested? Like I said I have the entire EGR setup with all new parts....just say the word

Sorry to hear about the turbo set up and specially your pocketbook. Sounds like you are happier now with the KB.

Okay, "uncle" and "pretty please" [smilie=bo
The egr valve is here. The other part would be on back order.
So, I can use that dpfe assembly and baro if you have it.
I'm wondering if I have a vac leak too.
Something is making me wonder if that JLP intake is actually mounted/sealed properly around the backside.
Glad to see you back. Don't forget about my dyno guy. He tuned HD2NV89 KB and he is pushing just over 500hp on 12psi of boost. Its about an hour drive for you.

first thing is to just cap the EGR off and turn it off in the tune and see if the gremlins go away....quit buying shit!!! :smt043

LOL... you know the part that did it really was the fact that
a) my better half was driving...
b) the look on that guy's face wondering WTF is up with this truck! - Priceless.

Alright, I know for sure the DPFE is part of it. Tests have shown some more improvement with the EGR stuff out. I don't think its everything. But she seems to stop pinging. I still have Torco in my tank so hard to tell what would happen without it. There's a bit of a miss still. I'm expecting these GMS coils to come up short when the stock COPs replace em.
I got my replacement dongle for the SCT PRP, so I'm a tuning freak again!
(BTW: Thanks JJ for getting them to give me a replacement so quick!)

I might have to take a cruise up there!
At the least, I'll be ready to do another cruise sometime soon!
I still have your Tazzo device!

Nope. I'm not touching that vehicle. It works, it continues to work, I need one vehicle that stays working.
Next, most tuners set and I have set my tune so that baro min and max values are the same. In this case, 27hg for a supercharged application. Over a long period of time the eec may learn different BPs and lean or richen the car, setting min and max to the same value prevents learning. The maf pretty much compensates for ~99% of atmospheric changes.
You see, BP is a calculated field. MAF counts is used in the calculation. Aftermarket MAFs which are rescaled to handle greater power will read low enough counts that the calculation is thrown off. If low enough (I think below 26hg), different EGR and fuel tables are used as it thinks you are in the mountains. Load is also affected. This is why its recommended to do what I did.
This is my way of saying the baro is fine bro. But I knew you wouldn't accept that alone as an answer. :smt042

good enough and there is always a way to tune around anything LOL
but if its completely jacked ....and sending eroneous readings out.....
anyhoo...so you disconnected all EGR stuff, capped the EGR valve off, pulled the eger tube and capped the header, pulled the EGR solenoid and capped the vac lines and disconneced the DPFE and then tuned for EGR delete.
airtroop01

I unplugged the vac line to the EGR valve and put a bolt in it.
I removed the EGR valve and put the EGR delete plate on.
I capped the end of the EGR tube with a plug I got from Orchard.
I left the dpfe connected.
I tuned for EGR delete.
I wanted to make it easy on myself when I get a new DPFE and install
the new EGR valve on my bar. I really want the EGR to work and not bypass the whole thing. It was just a test to isolate what I think is bad and whether I can return that expensive as hell EGR valve. I'm squeezing all this in a quick short hour here and there between work and rain/drizzle that we're getting here.

just checking.....making sure that you are taking the entire egr system out of the loop...

Trooper,
Glad to see you back in action.
Just curious - why not the KB 2.6 ? If it was all about initial cost then it's a no-brainer. 2.3s are a steal now that the 2.6s and other Whipples are out. Glad you're enjoying it again!

Yep, I didn't expect to blow my motor the way I did and when I did.
I had just plunked down a bunch of cash to rebuild my '68 Galaxie 500 XL Fastback and put a 514 cu in motor in it (actually the build details are kinda interesting... Comp Cams XR292R Roller Cam, TFS Aluminum Heads, TFS Aluminum Intake, etc --> Basically this build up here:
http://www.compcams.com/Community/Articles/Details.asp?ID=1197265310
Then while doing that, I realized the car was a rust bucket and I ended up dumping a ton of cash into it. (Its got some sentimental value for me)
So, I needed funds to help with the rebuild.
Otherwise, I would still have the turbo now.
Found someone who wanted to rip anything that challenged them a new one...and they had a 2.3 to trade. Which worked out for me. At this point in time, I just want to lay low for a bit. 2.3 is plenty for 18-20 psi of boost. I eventually would like to upgrade to a 2.6 KB as the JLP plenum will cause me troubles come smog time - only because it does not have an EO# stamped on it.

No arguing with the logic. With that monster of a Galaxie I can't blame you for those changes to the HD!

Here's what it looks like now... in my garage, waiting for me to finish Por15'ing the frame.
