Unfortunately I blew a head gasket yesterday on my 2000 f150. Kinda sucks cause I am picking up my L engine in less than 2 weeks. Oh well I guess it gives me more time to get the old POS out and the engine bay cleaned up. The new engine has a CJ crank, Manley rods and pistons, ARP hardware, trick flow 38cc heads, stock PI cams and a stock L top end with a 4 lb lower. I'm debating doing a home port before I install the engine but I'm not sure yet since I only have a dremel to do it with. The transmission is a built 4r70w with 7 plate clutches and a 2400 stall. I have 4.56 gears and 35 inch tires so the truck should move pretty good. I'll post all the pictures when I pick everything up on the 27th. Can one of the other swap guys on here tske some pictures of there exhaust for me. Is there room to run cats (or resonators) with 4wd Long tubes? Any other tips for me? I'm mounting my heat exchanger and IC pump this week as well as installing twin 255s so that will all be done before the motor gets here.
Got a lot of work done on it between last night and today after work. Intake is pulled, engine wiring harness Removed, exhaust manifolds are off, all the other crap is off of it too so all I have to do is pull the transmission and unbolt the motor from the motor mounts. Also got the tank pulled so I can install my twin 255 setup. Hopefully I'll have the transmission out on Thursday then I can give the underside a good cleaning and undercoat
Anyone have a write up for wiring twin 255s? I can't seem to find one. Im assuming stock wiring isn't beefy enough to support them right? There is no resistor in my truck to bypass so that makes it a little simpler. Can I just use the + wire on the fuel pump harness to trigger a relay to power the pumps or will that give me a low pump voltage CEL?
I have the lightning fuel hat. I'm not worried about getting it connected, more so as the stock wiring not being thick enough to support the draw of the twin 255s vs the stock single 155
So what your saying is the stock wiring will support the draw of the twin 255s without risking burning up or over drawing the wire? Just throw in a 30 amp fuse and be done?
So the motor has 38 cc TFS heads, stock Eaton and a 6 pound lower with a 9.4:1 CR. He has 42lb injectors with it and says it will be fine. What's the limit of the green top injectors? I'm not gonna up the boost or port the blower yet but I will eventually. At what point should I look into 60lb injectors?
Got the transmission dropped. Also picking up a ba2800 and 80lb injectors with the engine. I'm buying from idb2328 on here. He's another swap guy, he did the twin turbo and superchargered truck. It's that engine withoit the turbos. Hopefully picking it up this week
Yall have any horse power estimates? 9.4:1 cr, 38cc track heat heads, pi cams, stock Eaton with a 6lb lower and long tubes. 425 rear wheel would makee really happy but I don't think that is gonna happen. Maybe 400. I have no clue how much torque to expect. I'm putting it through a 4r70w and an edge racing 2400 stall street master (I think that's the series it was, it's rated at 650 rwhp).
I'm hoping it's not gonna blow lol its getting built up some. New valve body, more clutchs, all sonax and Ford stuff. I have 4x4 so I might loose a little extra there. Thanks for the wiring info on the fuel pumps. I got them installed a week or so ago. I might upgrade the lines while I have everything apart. Idk yet. The guy I bought the motor from gave me an almost new set of deatshwerks 88s
So he gave me a Lightning wiring harness off an 2003 but my truck is a 2000. Did any if the pin outs chranfr between 2000 and 2003? Is it even worth running the lightning harness vs my NA? I know I get an extra Iat with the L harness and a pre-wired IC pump circuit, but I'm not sure if my PCM will be able to read or control them.
depends on other items, but thats a great foundation to build on. You would probably have to TRY to not get over 425 with just what you have. My current L is stock block, heads, cams, injectors, manifold etc... tune, CAI, SBTB, bassani catback, ported blower, C&L plenum/elbow, and 6#, basically your standard bolt on L, and im at 448 . also 9.4:1 with 38CC heads??
That's what the seller told me it was, I put all the information in desktop dyno and was getting a little over 9.4:1 cr. It has - 17cc pistons, 0.020 overbore, 0.036 head gaskets, and the 38 cc heads. That's good to hear power wise then. I can't wait to get it running. I need to get a the blower ported and a sbtb
Your going to half to retune the cpu anyway, put the 60lb injectors in now and be done with it. As the boost goes up so will the tune changes needing to be done.
Probably 500 crank. My goal is 500. I think I can do it with these heads and CR, custom grind cams, ported Eaton and e85. Sucks that 4wd has like a 20% drivetrain loose
Rain held me up from getting it in today, but I pulled the valve covers, timing cover, and oil pan yesterday to check things out and everything looks brand new. Got all new gaskets on it, tr6s all gapped at 0.033, and the wiring harness on and extended for long tubes and the lightning intake. The weather looks good for tommorow so hopefully i will be able to get it in then
Got the motor in this morning and did a compression test, well sort of. I just spun the crank by hand and got 30 psi on every cylinder. At least they were all consistent with hand cranking
