5.8 swap?

Have the motor for sale, but been contemplating putting it in the lightning.
Purchased a complete 5.8 with trans ecu and harness.
Im sure its been discussed before on this forum.
How much work did i get myself into by doing a swap?
Pros/cons?

I'm sure a search will yield results. not a lot of swaps that I've seen threads on. I think one of the first swaps was(can't remember guy's name from svtperformance) was done by DMP in San Diego. I saw and heard the truck and it was really sweet. only issue he said was the alternator would be cutting off driving on FWY. not sure what ever happened after that.

2001 Silver Lightning-Ported blower, 6lb pulley, magnaflow mid pipe and catback. other lil goodies.

from what i recall, biggest issue with the swap that MP did was the location of the alternator in relation to the steering box. Both items required relocation. A rack and pinion conversion alleviated the issue though I think.

I could of sworn Jim 3 @ JDM explained here or on FB a time or to what it takes is good detail what it takes to swap a 4v in. Perhaps it was a navigator based 4v which is different.

Just a Randy Smith and Tuned by norm Lightning....

I would say for pro's you'd have an all aluminum motor with huge power potential with a ton of power on the big end. Also many blower options available if you can clear your firewall enough.

Con's would be that it might be a little bit of a PITA to get swapped over.

EPAS is easier said than done, I've yet to see anyone convert their L to EPAS.

You can go with the earlier GT500 power steering pump setup, before EPAS started in 2011. You'll have to build your own lines, but aside from that it'll keep things simple with belts/pullies/etc.

Alternator I think still won't clear even with relocating the PS, because our frame. It will either take notching, or you can flip it to the passenger side if you don't have A/C. That's the approach I'm probably taking, but I need to get my block dropped in first lol.

Wiring is pretty straightforward. Just coils or injectors need the polarity swapped. I forget which it is, but it's been posted before from guys who swapped to 4v.
