Smoke at start-up, what's needed?

So I've been told it's most likely the valve seals, but regardless I'm planning to remove the heads and fix the problem. Does anyone have a short list of what would be needed and maybe what should be replaced at this time? Here's whatvi was thinking:
Timing chain??
Tensioner??
Guides??
Head gaskets
VC gaskets
Intake gaskets
Valve seals
Head bolts

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to get an idea of cost.
And I'm assuming rockauto would be the best place to purchase, or summit??

May not be the guides............

If you do not have the PCV shit modified with remote breathers/ or a catch can system...May be the oil that is puddling under the inter cooler being sucked in at first start up..............

I have a breather and an oil separator. Unfortunately the truck basically sits each winter. Starting it here and there, but the seals have probably hardened up. I'm getting a puff of smoke probably every other start up (first one of the day).

I'll try and get a pic next time. It's a big enough cloud where it definitely did not do it 2 years ago. Gradually getting worse

Well, if your truck is like mine, she's had her ears laid back a few times in 17 years. She has a few battle scars and bruises from whuppin on assorted chebbys and ricers, a few warts here and there, but she still makes me smile when I go out to the parking lot after work, so I can forgive her if she spews something noxious from some delicate spots from time to time.

I'm not completely useless, I can be used as a bad example.

If you are going through the trouble of removing the heads, you might as well go built.

Its what I'm waiting for. I get a puff of smoke at start up and it slowly gets worse(especially now that I don't drive it every day, but it still runs absolutely fine.

I never get a puff of smoke out of my truck on start ups but its a fresh build. i will see in time. My primo has a puff at start up and he has a built engine with around 6k miles. It is somewhat normal as stated before.

On a side note, if you need head bolts PM me i have a set of Ford Racing head bolts new in box that i can give you a good deal on.

I have 167K miles, but not sure if there was a rebuild at some point. I get a puff of smoke if the truck sits for a week, but that's it. I figure if I go to change the valve seals, I might as well do a rebuild too. So far, I don't let it sit longer than a week .

I "had" crap Patriot heads that puffed every startup. Bad valve guides.

Ported Trickflow heads fixed that problem...

You have bad valve seals or guides.

What's your mileage? What heads?

May just need seals if only 60k miles. I have a valve spring compressor that allows you to replace the seals with the engine in the truck. PM me if interested.
